Whether your partner has a habit of leaving their coat on the banisters or you find yourself tripping over an umbrella that was left propped up by the back door, if you’re tired of outside attire being left around the house, investing in a coat stand could be the answer to keeping things de-cluttered and hazard-free.

Many households these days keep their coats in a cupboard, but if you’re often inviting guests into your home, a coat stand is the perfect place to leave their outside wear. A coat stand not only removes that awkward scenario of finding a place to put outside gear; it creates a bit of ceremony that can leave your guests feeling thoroughly welcomed.

A design of a coat stand can be either one of two things - practical or stylish. If you’re a fan of quirkiness and fancy finding one that is completely unique, we’ve taken a look at retailers such as Wayfair or John Lewis for a selection of sculptures that also double up as somewhere to hang your coat.

As mentioned in the introduction, coat racks also make a great hallway feature as well as provide a functional purpose. If you can’t resist an artistic buy and you’re a fan of linear decor, this Leonhard Pfeifer stand could be the perfect item for your hallway. There are five ‘hooks’ on which to place coats or hats and plenty of space to hang an umbrella. Made from solid wood, it should be great quality and reviewers comment on its sturdiness, making it great for purpose too.

Keep the hallway free from clutter with a place to store jackets, hats, bags and umbrellas

Article from The Independant by Riya Patel, Thursday 16 November 2017

As we bring our winter coats out of retirement, hallways can end up cluttered with the layers we pile on for the season. A good coat stand helps keep things organised for the whole family (plus guests) and ideally keeps umbrellas and other essentials out of the way too.

Plenty of hooks, at a range of heights and at different sizes, means there is a place for everyone and everything – including shorter jackets, hats, and bags. Most take up a space around 40cm to 50cm square on the floor, but distinctive styles and those that branch out at the top, look best with a bit of space around them. This unusual stand has a tiered design that looks great alone, but less sculptural when piled with coats. You can hang clothing from the vertical parts, as well as using coat hangers on the horizontals. Putting it together is fairly easy, although some customers found the pre-drilled holes less than precise. It is made in solid oak and takes up a floor area roughly 48cmx48cm.

There has been much hullabaloo about all things British lately, what with a certain sporting event about to kick off. And lest the nation's finest furniture designers think they are going to escape the celebrations, the prestigious Design Guild Marks for 2012 is here to set them straight.

The annual accolades were introduced by The Furniture Makers Company in 2008 to reward excellence in the British design of furniture in volume production. David ChipperfieldKay+StemmerSimon Pengelly and Bethan Gray are among those recognised this year. Also championed was Marc Krusin's 'Krusin Table and Chair Collection' for Knoll International and PearsonLloyd's 'PLC chair' for Modus.

Entries were, by all accounts, of a very high standard and a diverse and impressive lineup included outdoor furniture as well as domestic furniture, designs for the retail and the contract markets, as well as for healthcare, education and office sector. Read the full article here
